Lakovic and Mucalica released pending trial

Lakovic and Mucalica released pending trial

Podgorica, (MINA) - Sasa Lakovic and Nemanja Mucalica, suspected of assisting Milos Medinica to escape, have been released pending trial, as there are no grounds for their detention, the Basic Court announced.

The announcement states that the investigating judge of the Basic Court in Podgorica upheld the appeal of Lakovic’s defense attorney.

The Basic Court stated that there is no risk of repeating the crime and added that Lakovic and Mucalica are accused of actions taken three months ago, of which the law enforcement authorities were aware all along.

It is stated that the prosecution based the risk of flight on the conclusion that the suspects are familiar with how to organize escape and hiding, while not providing any specific reason why the suspects would flee.

“There is no risk of influencing the witnesses, as the state prosecutor did not specify whether the suspect and the witness know each other and whether they had any contact since Medenica’s escape, nor whether the suspects had the opportunity to influence the witness”, said the Basic Court.
