Koprivica: Government unanimously supports lifting immunity for corruption-related offenses

Podgorica, (MINA) – The government unanimously supports the proposal to amend the Constitution by abolishing the immunity of its members in cases involving corruption-related offenses, said Deputy Prime Minister Momo Koprivica, adding that he believes that the Parliament will support the proposal.

Koprivica told RTCG Portal that it is an important anti-corruption measure that contributes to the implementation of GRECO recommendations and Montenegro’s European integration.

He recalled that the Government approved the Proposal to amend the Constitution, which envisages the abolition of the immunity of its members for corruption-related offenses, and submitted it to the Parliament for consideration.

“The action plan for the implementation of the GRECO recommendations is an integral part of Chapter 23, and I urge the Parliament to keep this in mind, so as not to create the impression that only the norms concerning the judiciary and the Central Bank are important for the EU membership, even though they are more directly set as requirements”, said Koprivica.

According to him, the best way to fight corruption is a system that encourages consistent application of the law.

Koprivica noted that the proposal to amend the Constitution was approved by the Constitutional Committee and appealed for the parliamentary procedure to continue as soon as possible.
