Extradition detention ordered for Vuk Vulevic

Extradition detention ordered for Vuk Vulevic

Podgorica, (MINA) – A judge of the High Court in Belgrade ordered on Sunday the extradition detention of Montenegrin national Vuk Vulevic, arrested in the Serbian capital on the basis of an international Red Notice issued by Interpol Podgorica, it was confirmed to Nova.rs.

According to that decision, Vulevic’s detention can last until the decision on his extradition is executed, but not longer than one year from the day of his detention.

The court ordered detention due to the risk that he could ho in hiding or flee in order to obstruct the extradition procedure.

The arrest of Vulevic was announced on Saturday by Montenegrin Minister of the Interior Danilo Saranovic, who said that he had been arrested in Belgrade on the basis of the Red Notice issued by Montenegro, describing this arrest as another confirmation that the time of the untouchables is over.

Saranovic recalled that Vulevic was wanted as part of the international operation codenamed General, one of the most complex international operations aimed at breaking up a criminal organization suspected of smuggling more than 2.5 tons of cocaine from South America to Europe and Australia.

He added that the arrest of Vulevic was the result of coordinated and professional cooperation between the police administrations of Montenegro and Serbia.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia commented in its press release to Saranovic’s statement, saying that the intelligence findings that led to Vukovic’s location and arrest in Belgrade, as well as the planning and implementation of the operation, were the result of the work carried out by MUP Serbia officers.

According to them, the international police cooperation, processing of international warrants and exchange of information with partner services represent a regular and significant segment of the fight against organized crime.

“Nevertheless, in order to accurately inform the public, it is necessary to clearly distinguish between international cooperation and operational work that directly led to locating, planning and implementing this specific arrest”, the press release reads.
