Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at a meeting between tobacco growers and representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management that tobacco production has a long-standing tradition and provides a significant source of income for many agricultural producers, making it essential to establish a sustainable model for its future development.
The Ministry said in a press release that the meeting focused on opportunities to improve and further regulate tobacco production, as well as the challenges facing producers.
Among other things, participants agreed that conditions need to be created for organized tobacco production in accordance with the applicable legal framework.
The meeting also resulted in an agreement to establish a working group that will, as soon as possible, meet with tobacco processors from the region in order to create the conditions for signing contracts with domestic producers.
“This would enable organized tobacco production in line with the provisions of the current Law on Tobacco, while ensuring more secure market access and the long-term sustainability of this agricultural activity,” the press release reads.
