Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro remains fully committed to contributing to the project of a stronger, more competitive and more prosperous Europe for all its citizens, said Prime Minister Milojko Spajic at the EU-Montenegro Intergovernmental Conference in Luxembourg, where the country provisionally closed two negotiating chapters.
He pointed out that each closed chapter represents tangible evidence that enlargement works when commitment, reforms and political will come together.
Addressing representatives of the EU member states, Spajic said that for Montenegro, the accession process has never been merely a technical process of legal alignment, but a transformative national project and a generational dream.
“By closing these two chapters, Montenegro remains fully committed to contributing to the project of a stronger, more competitive and more prosperous Europe for all its citizens,”, said Spajic.
According to the Government’s press release, he welcomed the provisional closure of Chapter 2 (Freedom of Movement for Workers) and Chapter 28 (Consumer and Health Protection), adding that these are very different chapters, but together they tell a powerful story about what European integration means for Montenegro’s citizens.
Spajic added that closure of these chapters does not mark the end of reforms, but rather confirms that reforms are delivering results.
“I am convinced that 2026 will be remembered as a turning point for European enlargement and as the year in which the EU finally reaffirmed the transformative power of its enlargement policy”, concluded Spajic.
