Magyar: New Hungarian Government supports Montenegro’s bid to become next EU member

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro is a role model for other candidate countries and has Hungary’s support to become the next member of the European Union (EU) by 2028, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic and his Hungarian counterpart Peter Magyar agreed.

According to the Government, Spajic and Magyar discussed bilateral relations, cooperation within the NATO, as well as the European perspective of Montenegro on the sidelines of the NATO summit held in Ankara.

Magyar pointed out that the new Hungarian Government is firmly committed to the EU enlargement policy and supports Montenegro’s goal of becoming an EU member state by 2028.

According to the press release, he assessed that Montenegro is an example of how the accession process should be concluded.

“Membership can only be achieved through decisive reforms, consistent fulfillment of obligations and concrete results in all areas covered by the negotiation process”, Magyar said.

Spajic thanked Hungary for its continued support for Montenegro’s European integration, stressing that EU membership remains the government’s most important strategic goal.

“Spajic pointed out that Montenegro remains committed to the further improvement of relations with Hungary and expressed the expectation that continued high-level contacts and direct cooperation between the competent institutions would create conditions for the full implementation of the agreements reached and the realization of joint development projects”, the press release added.
