Gjeloshaj: Economic growth expected

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Montenegro’s business environment is improving every day, Minister of Economic Development Nik Gjeloshaj said, adding that economic growth is expected.

Responding to MPs’ questions, Gjeloshaj said that the country's European integration process would bring benefits to Montenegro.

“I am pleased that the Government has managed to stabilize inflation, increase wages and improve citizens’ living standards. Are we satisfied? To some extent, yes, but we want more, and living standards will continue to improve,” Gjeloshaj said in response to a question from MP Ivan Vukovic of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).

Vuković said that in April Gjeloshaj had informed the public that the price capping campaign would not be extended and that “the market should be allowed to breathe a little.” He asked whether Gjeloshaj was satisfied with the effects of that decision.

Gjeloshaj replied that he could not recall making that statement and that the remark was probably taken out of context, but added that, in the real sector, it is true that the market should be allowed to operate freely.

“The price capping campaign is a short-term measure. It was implemented on several occasions for periods of several months in order to calm the market during periods of instability and price pressures,” Gjeloshaj said.

He added that, according to statistics, the initiative had been successful, produced results and helped stabilize market trends
