Workers reject management’s offer

Workers reject management’s offer

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Workers of Railway Infrastructure Company of Montenegro (ZICG), who halted work on Friday, have rejected the salary increase offered to them during today’s negotiations with the company’s management.

ZICG Executive Director Marina Boskovic said that workers were offered a salary increase of at least €300 each, but they turned it down.

“They rejected the offer and instead put forward new demands for a 25 percent increase in incentives, which is not in line with the law and therefore cannot be accepted,” Boskovic told reporters after the meeting.

She added that the management’s offer, approved by both representative unions and the line Ministry, was in accordance with the law and represented a solid basis for further improvement of employees’ conditions.

“ZICG has initiated the procedure of engaging qualified staff from within the company and from neighbouring countries as logistical support in order to restore traffic. We expect this to happen as soon as possible,” Boskovic announced.

She also urged the police and the prosecutor’s office to take lawful action within their jurisdiction to unblock railway traffic, which has been paralyzed for four days.

A group of 85 ZPCG train dispatchers and traffic controllers stopped work on Friday in protest over low wages, bringing train traffic to a standstill.
