Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Representatives of trade unions and employers have proposed that retail stores be allowed to operate on Sundays only during the summer and winter seasons, while the Government has said that the goal is to reach a solution that will not again be subject to a constitutional review.
President of the Employers Federation (UPCG) Slobodan Mikavica said at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Finance and Budget that the Social Council had recommended amendments to the Law on Internal Trade to the Ministry of Economic Development, allowing Sunday work exclusively during the summer and winter seasons.
The Ministry will now forward the proposal to the Government for a decision.
Mikavica explained that this would allow business operations from 1 June to 31 August, and from 1 December to 31 January 31, limited to only one shift and only one retail outlet per municipality in cases where retailers operate multiple stores.
He added that retailers would be required to notify the relevant inspection authority at least 15 days in advance which outlet would operate on Sundays and whether work would be organized in the first or second shift.
