Successful implementation of war crime cases related activities

 

Podgorica, (MINA) - The State Prosecutor’s Office has implemented 27 of the 28 activities foreseen by the 2024-2025 Action Plan for the implementation of the War Crimes Investigation Strategy.

The Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office announced that in the third and fourth quarters of last year, the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) had opened two cases concerning criminal offences of war crimes, which are currently ongoing.

According to the press release, 21 cases from the earlier period are in the preliminary investigation and one in the investigation phase, while indictments have been filed in two cases.

“In one of the cases in which indictments was filed and confirmed, the Podgorica High Court found the accused guilty and sentenced them to 20 years in prison”, the press release said.

In the second case, according to the press release, the indictment was filed and confirmed by the Podgorica High Court.

“Activities from the Action Plan regarding the events included in the already completed war crime proceedings “Morinj”, “Bukovica”, “Kaluđerski laz” and “Deportation” are being carried out continuously, as well as the activities concerning the cases that are in the preliminary or investigation phase, which were adopted in January last year”, the press release says.

It is stated that the proactive approach has been also recognized in the European Commission Report on Montenegro’s progress for past year, in which good progress was noted in the prosecution of war crimes and development of a credible track record.
