Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Finance Novica Vukovic met with the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Montenegro, Jeff Danforth, and his team, reaffirming the continuation of strong and substantive cooperation in achieving tangible economic results on Montenegro’s path toward European integration.

“Montenegro continues to maintain strong reform momentum, strengthen macroeconomic stability, and demonstrate the credibility of its responsible economic policies,” the Ministry pf Finance said in a press release.

Vukovic and Danforth, together with their teams, discussed progress in implementing reforms, improving the institutional framework, and strengthening public finances, while continuing to align with European standards.

Vukovic said Montenegro is delivering stable results and maintaining overall macroeconomic stability despite a challenging global environment.

“He thanked the IMF for its continued partnership and expert support, emphasizing that cooperation with international financial institutions has helped Montenegro pursue responsible, sustainable, and development-oriented economic policies,” the press release reads.

Danforth welcomed Montenegro’s progress in implementing reforms and strengthening its fiscal framework

“Montenegro is making tangible progress in implementing reforms. Activities aimed at establishing a Fiscal Council, improving the institutional framework, and strengthening public finance capacity are particularly encouraging. The IMF will continue to provide strong technical support to Montenegro, which remains one of our priorities,” Danforth said.

The meeting confirmed that cooperation with the IMF will continue through a new series of expert missions planned for November, with the aim of further strengthening fiscal capacity and better preparing Montenegro for the final stage of its accession to the European Union (EU).
