Simun: New law on digital health a step forwards towards a modern and safe healthcare system

Podgorica, (MINA) - The draft Law on Data Management in the field of healthcare and digital health, adopted by the Government at the end of last year at the proposal of the Ministry of Health, represents the basis for faster healthcare system reform, said Minister of Health Vojislav Simun.

The new law, as the Ministry of Health said, lays the foundation for an integrated healthcare system.

“And it makes a major step towards a modern, digital and safe healthcare system, which addresses specific problems that citizens have been facing for years, such as repeated examinations, insufficient data exchange between institutions and the need for patients to transfer their medical documentation from one institution to another”, the press release added.

Simun pointed out that the proposed law envisages the establishment of an integral health information system, which connects all healthcare institutions and competent authorities, and enables standardized, secure and efficient data exchange in the entire healthcare system.

“The draft law, among other things, envisages the introduction of the electronic health records, as the basis for the management of patient health data, which ensures the unification, security and availability of key data”, said Simun.

It is added that at the same time the Draft Law provides a legal framework for the development of modern digital health services and responsible application of new technologies, including artificial intelligence, with clearly defined rules, supervision and protection of patients’ rights.
