Ongoing phishing campaigns target social media users

Ongoing phishing campaigns target social media users

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The national Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT) has warned the public about an ongoing phishing campaign on social media, with scammers using the visual identity of a well-known retail chain and sending fake messages about a prize competition.

The fake messages target the Voli retail chain, telling users they have been selected as winners of a valuable prize and instructing them to register.

“The link in the message leads to a fake website where users are asked to provide personal information, including identification and contact details, in order to supposedly claim the valuable prize,” CIRT stated in a press release.

CIRT has called on users to be extra cautious, advising them that if they receive such a message, they should not respond. Instead, they should carefully check the sender’s address and examine the URL, as phishing websites often use slight variations of official domain names.

CIRT also advised users not to open links from suspicious messages, not to make payments on questionable websites, and to read messages carefully, as phishing messages often contain grammatical errors.

“Keep in mind that serious institutions and companies will never ask you to send confidential information or documents via SMS, email, or social media,” CIRT stated.

Users who believe their personal data has been misused can report the incident by sending an email to [email protected], or or by filling out the incident report form on CIRT’s website: https://www.gov.me/cirt/prijavi-incident
