Official Gazette publishes decision abolishing work-free Sundays

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Official Gazette of Montenegro has published the Constitutional Court’s decision abolishing work-free Sundays in retail, meaning that the upcoming Sunday could be a working day.

The decision repealing Article 35a of the Law on Internal Trade, related to work-free Sundays, was published in Official Gazette No. 15/2026, dated 10 February.

Decisions of the Constitutional Court enter into force on the day of their publication in the Official Gazette.

On January 28, the Constitutional Court repealed Article 35a of the Law on Internal Trade as unconstitutional, thereby abolishing work-free Sundays in retail, and delivered the decision to the Official Gazette in early February.

The Social Council unanimously adopted amendments to the Law on Internal Trade proposing that retail outlets in Montenegro be allowed to operate on Sundays again, but only during peak summer and winter tourist seasons, in a single shift and in one retail outlet per municipality.

The Government is yet to issue its opinion on this proposal.
