Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management stated that it has not received precise information regarding the date of the suspension of milk purchases, adding that it will take all measures within its authority to resolve the situation.
According to a press release from the Ministry, earlier contacts with the Association of Milk Processors did not provide clear information on when the purchases would stop.
“The Association previously warned the Ministry in a letter about the impossibility of continuing purchases due to large stockpiles and difficulties in market distribution, but it did not specify when the purchases would be suspended. We learned from the media that the suspension had already occurred on Saturday, without prior notice or warning to the Ministry,” the press release stated.
The Ministry added that Montenegro’s market is a free market, in line with signed agreements such as CEFTA and others. The Ministry of Agriculture does not have instruments to strictly prevent the entry of dairy products into the domestic market.
“Since we have all been placed in a delicate situation due to the suspension of purchases in some parts of Montenegro, we urgently contacted the largest dairy processors and requested relevant information regarding the new situation. Based on information received from processors and field reports, the Ministry will assess the situation and, within its authority, take all necessary measures to resolve it,” the press release reads.
