Flooding threatens homes in several towns, Zeta River and Skadar Lake still critical

 

Podgorica, (MINA) - Over the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall has caused flooding and traffic disruptions in several Montenegrin municipalities, the Ministry of the Interior (MUP) has announced, adding that water levels are declining everywhere except in the Zeta River and Lake Skadar.
 
The Ministry stated that, in the past 24 hours, the Operational Communication Center 112 received over 450 calls, and that citizens most often reported flooded properties and buildings, as well as traffic-related issues.
 
“According to a situation overview on the ground, the consequences of heavy rainfall were recorded in Niksic, Danilovgrad, Mojkovac, Bijelo Polje, Ulcinj, Pljevlja, Podgorica, Kolasin and Berane”, the MUP stated.
 
According to the press release, in Danilovgrad, due to heavy rainfall, houses in the village of Sekulici were flooded and 15 roads have been closed, and traffic was also disrupted on the road Danilovgrad - Niksic, in the village of Orja luka.
 
In Podgorica, the Siralija bridge in Rogami is closed, and according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, several buildings are under threat in the Mareza settlement.
 
“Houses are under threat in Grebica and Duklo near Niksic”, the press release says, adding that in Ulcinj, four buildings on Ada Bojana are under threat.
 
“The Mojkovac - Djurdjevica Tara road near Sokolovina is interrupted due to a landslide. In the villages of Slatina and Kaludra, traffic has been stopped due to the overflow of the Tara River. The road Kolasic - Rovacko Trebaljevo is also closed due to the overflow of the Tara River”, the press release states.
 
In Berane, traffic is disrupted in the village of Lubnica, due to damage to the road infrastructure, while in the Cetinje Municipality, the Protection and Rescue Services pumped water out of several buildings.
 
The MUP stated that, according to the situation at 3 p.m., water levels of all rivers were falling except for the Zeta River and Lake Skarad.
 
It is emphasized that the officers of the regional Rescue and Protection Directorate are constantly in the field, and that complete logistical support is on standby.
