EC: Montenegro has a credible and sustainable reform framework

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Montenegro has a credible and sustainable reform framework and is ready for the final phase of negotiations, representatives of the European Commission (EC) said at a meeting held at the Ministry of Finance.

EC representatives stated that Montenegro’s Economic Reform Programme for the period from this year through 2028 offers a credible, well-structured, and fiscally sustainable reform framework, based on realistic macroeconomic projections, fiscal discipline, and a clear prioritization of capital investments.

“It was particularly noted that the institutional maturity and continuity of the Programme’s preparation process, the high degree of alignment with European Union (EU) rules, and visible progress in public financial management, tax policy, and budget transparency should provide the necessary impetus to address remaining fiscal and structural challenges,” the Ministry said in a press release.

Minister of Finance Novica Vukovic said that Montenegro has entered the final phase of the accession process with clear results, stable public finances, and reforms delivering measurable effects for citizens and businesses.

“The Montenegrin economy is growing, public finances are stable, and we are making reform decisions responsibly and in line with European rules,” Vukovic said, expressing expectation that all negotiating chapters will be closed by the end of this year.
