Construction efficiency must not outweigh fairness in allocation

Construction efficiency must not outweigh fairness in allocation

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Tenants’ Association supports any project that has the potential to resolve the housing issue of citizens who have lived as tenants for decades, but the efficiency of construction must not, in their view, take precedence over fairness in housing allocation.

The Association stated in a press release that in previous public statements by relevant institutions regarding the Velje Brdo project, there has been discussion about deadlines, tenders, boulevards, and construction, while the key question, who will receive the apartments, has been avoided.

“The Tenants’ Association expresses serious concern that without clearly defined and pre-adopted criteria, there is a real risk that this project, instead of being a historic opportunity for the most vulnerable, could turn into a vehicle for political influence, favouritism, and abuses that citizens have witnessed too many times,” the press release said.

The Association noted that there are many people in Montenegro who have been tenants for ten, 20, or more years, without owning property, without security, and without prospects.

“For these people, Velje Brdo is not just a project. it is the only real chance for a decent life,” the Association concluded.
