CBCG makes strong contribution to progress in EU accession talks

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Governor of the Central Bank (CBCG) Irena Radovic said that the CBCG has completed all of its obligations from the pre-accession process, achieving 100 per cent fulfilment of assigned tasks, thereby contributing strongly to Montenegro’s overall progress in negotiations with the European Union, particularly within the economic chapters.

She met with the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Montenegro Caroline Tissot and members of her team to discuss key priorities and initiatives which the CBCG implements to strengthen financial stability, improve the regulatory framework and modernise the payment system.

“It was noted at the meeting that significant progress has been made in aligning the regulatory and supervisory framework with the EU regulations and standards, alongside the strengthening of the CBCG’s institutional capacities,” the CBCG stated in a press release.

Radovic also presented CBCG activities aimed at the green transition and the implementation of ESG standards, the promotion of gender and financial inclusion, the strengthening of financial literacy, and the digital transformation of the financial system.

Key development challenges and opportunities were also discussed, and it was concluded that sustainability, digitalisation and financial inclusion are important prerequisites for sustainable and inclusive economic growth and development.

Tissot congratulated CBCG on its accomplishments, and confirmed the readiness of the United Nations system to continue supporting Montenegro’s development priorities, including reforms contributing to the successful continuation of the European integration process and alignment with European Union standards.
