Artificial snowmaking key for Montenegrin ski resorts

Artificial snowmaking key for Montenegrin ski resorts

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – PR consultant for the Kolasin 1450 ski center Dragana Becirovic said that the key problem for the development of skiing on Bjelasica is the lack of water and an artificial snowmaking system, adding that there can be no stable and predictable ski season without it.

Becirovic told the Mina-business agency that Kolasin is virtually the only ski resort in Europe operating without an artificial snowmaking system, which is a serious limitation for tourism development and business planning.

Ski Resorts of Montenegro, which manages the Kolasin 1600 ski center, also believes that the absence of a snowmaking system is one of the key challenges and that its introduction would allow more stable and long-term planning of the season.

“If such a system had been in operation, the season could start earlier and the organization of operations would be much more predictable, without relying exclusively on natural snowfall,” the PR service of Ski Resorts of Montenegro told Mina-business.

Becirovic recalled that the water supply and snowmaking project had been declared a project of public interest, but that no progress had been made beyond that stage.
