Podgorica, (MINA) – For the first time since the introduction of constitutional appeals, there is not a single case older than a year and a half pending before the Constitutional Court, Court President Snezana Armenko said, adding that the achieved result is not merely a statistical success, but a message to citizens that they will no longer have to wait years for the protection of their constitutional rights.
She said that the Constitutional Court achieved the best result ever recorded in its work so far, pointing out that today the oldest constitutional appeal pending before the Court was filed last year.
“For the first time since the given the authority to decide on constitutional appeals in 2007, the Constitutional Court does not have a single constitutional appeal older than a year and a half, which means that today the oldest constitutional appeal pending before the Constitutional Court dates back to last year”, said Armenko.
She recalled that until two years ago, citizens had to wait for up to six years for the decisions of the Constitutional Court.
“In just two years, we resolved all constitutional appeals filed in the past seven years, and in three years, we have resolved more than 5,200 constitutional appeals”, stated Armenko.
According to her, the achievement is not merely a statistical success, but a message to citizens that they will no longer have to wait years for the protection of their constitutional rights.
Armenko assessed that the achieved results should contribute to restoring public trust in the Constitutional Court, which, according to her, is the final guarantor of the protection of human rights and freedoms at the national level.
