Adzic: Anti-mafia law is the only way to stop organized crime

Podgorica, (MINA) – The anti-mafia law is the only way to stand in the way of organized crime, said Filip Adzic, a member of the Civic Movement URA Presidency, adding that the adoption of the law is also necessary to fill the state budget.

Adzic said that there is no explanation why the ruling majority fails to adopt the anti-mafia law, suggesting that they intend to give criminals more time to hide assets acquired through criminal activity and make it inaccessible to the authorities.

“Since the changes that took place in 2020, this is the first time that the budget of Montenegro will be smaller than the previous year, despite the Government’s enormous liabilities, which clearly shows that the anti-mafia law, in addition to dealing with criminal structures, is urgently needed to fill the budget”, Adzic said.

According to the URA’s press release, he pointed out that the party, in cooperation with eminent lawyers dealing with the issue, has further improved the legal proposal they submitted a few months ago.

Their proposal, he explained, implies shifting the burden of proving from institutions to criminal structures, enabling more efficient use of national resources.

Adzic stated that the control over assets acquired through criminal activity would be carried out in civil proceedings independently of any criminal proceedings.
