Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – At the request of the Sveti Stefan local community, leader of the United Reform Action (URA) Dritan Abazovic will initiate the establishment of an inquiry committee in Parliament to determine all details regarding the reopening of Sveti Stefan and potential construction in Milocer Park.
Abazovic met on Monday with representatives of the Sveti Stefan local community, who expressed concern over what they described as a secret agreement between the Government of Montenegro and the lessee, Aman Resort, noting that they have long opposed investment deals they consider questionable and harmful to the area and the interests of local residents.
“I regret that some people who were once vocal in defending Sveti Stefan are now silent. Everyone probably has their own reasons, but as long as there are reasonable voices like those from the local community, from Budva, and from across Montenegro, I believe we will succeed together in protecting what is most beautiful in our country. If anyone thinks we should destroy Sveti Stefan, as we have destroyed numerous other sites, I consider such a person an enemy of Budva, an enemy of Montenegro, and an enemy of its citizens,” Abazovic said after the meeting.
He added that the local community has had his full support for years, recalling that Sveti Stefan is Montenegro’s most recognizable symbol and likely one of its most valuable cultural assets.
“I believe the residents are right to seek support from all well-intentioned people in Montenegro to resolve their long-standing issue. We discussed possible ways to help concretely. The idea was raised to initiate the procedure for establishing an inquiry committee regarding Sveti Stefan. I fully support this and call on MPs from all parties, regardless of differences, to process such an initiative jointly and seek answers from all relevant institutions and individuals,” Abazovic said.
