Podgorica, (MINA) – From July 1 to October 1, the Montenegrin police will intensify traffic controls on the busiest roads and locations that are recognized as the most dangerous, as part of the national campaign “Live, Don’t Rush”. 

Minister of the Interior Danilo Saranovic said that the campaign is aimed at improving road safety, with the clear goal of saving human lives.

Saranovic pointed out that this year the police are introducing a different approach, and unlike in previous years, citizens will be informed in advance on which roads police officers will carry out enhanced traffic controls.

According to him, with a death rate that is many times higher than the European average, Montenegro is still among the countries with the poorest traffic safety indicators.

Saranovic pointed out that 67 people were killed and 3,179 injured in traffic accidents last year, while 30 people lost their lives in the first five months of this year alone.

“We invite all road users not to see this campaign as a warning about possible fines, but as a reminder that behind every statistic lies someone’s life, someone’s family and someone’s home that has lost its member. Speed ​​can save us a few minutes, but irresponsible driving can cost a life. Live, don’s rush”, Saranovic concluded.
