Podgorica, (MINA) - The vice-president of the Civic Movement URA and former Minister of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, Ana Novakovic Djurovic, said that she expects the prosecution to dismiss the criminal complaint filed against her by the company Montenegro Petrol, over the demolition of the company’s buildings in the Mahala settlement.
The URA announced that Novakovic Djurovic gave a statement at the Special State Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday morning before special prosecutor Ivan Medojevic.
“In which she pointed out that both she and the Government acted to protect the public interest when they made the decision to protect the Moraca River from illegal gravel exploitation, and therefore the Bolje Sestre water source, which supplies water to the Montenegrin coast”, the press release said.
Novakovic Djurovic expressed expectation that the charges will be dismissed, stressing that she acted in the public interest and that the authorities should prosecute those who destroyed the natural resources of Montenegro for the sake of personal gain.
She said that everything was done in line with the law.
“Let the institutions do their job, and I hope that if they do it properly, those who have been illegally exploiting gravel for years and decades and harming the state and getting rich illegally, will be prosecuted”, said Novakovic Djurovic.
