Podogrica, (MINA) – The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) has the strength to once again become the pillar of a progressive, civil and European Montenegro, said the party leader, Danijel Zivkovic, adding that it is time for the country to become the next EU member under DPS leadership.

Zivkovic made this remark during the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the DPS.

“Tonight, we are not celebrating only one jubilee. We are celebrating 35 years of our party, 35 years of political responsibility, challenges, victories and service to Montenegro. This is an opportunity to look back on what we have achieved, at the period behind us, but even more importantly to talk about the future and the obligations we have towards the citizens and the state”, stated Zivkovic, according to DPS press release.

According to Zivkovic, the political generation that founded and led the DPS shaped the history of modern Montenegro.

“That generation preserved peace in the most difficult times, restored state independence, made Montenegro a NATO member and set the European path that most state policies follow today”, said Zivkovic.

He pointed out that the DPS has spent the past six years as a corrective to the authorities.

“We accepted the will of the citizens and showed political maturity and democratic capacity”, emphasized Zivkovic.

He stressed that DPS continues to modernize through openness to new people, new ideas and new policies.

Zivkovic remarked that they have created new platforms that they would soon present to the public, adding that they would not win for the sake of gaining power, but that their goal is to restore responsibility, stability and seriousness of state governance.
