Mugosa: Government must urgently cut fuel excise duties and protect citizens’ living standards

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Head of the European Alliance parliamentary group Boris Mugosa called on the Government to urgently apply the legal mechanism for a temporary reduction of fuel excise duties in order to mitigate the rise in petroleum product prices and its impact on citizens’ living standards.

Mugosa said that the Government continues to profit at the expense of citizens and businesses, who are the only ones bearing the burden of the energy crisis.

“Because the Government decided, without any explanation, to abolish the legally permitted percentage reduction in excise duties and include the full amount of excise duties in the price of diesel (€0.44 per litre), which are state budget revenues, citizens will pay €1.81 per litre of diesel,” Mugosa said.

He noted that this is €0.47 per litre more than just a few months ago and that, on top of this difference, the state also earns an additional €0.08 per litre through VAT, which is calculated on excise duties as well.
