Podgorica, (MINA) – The financial package adopted by the European Commission (EC) represents a strong confirmation that the EU is seriously counting on Montenegro’s accession in the near future and that the reform progress achieved by the country is matched with concrete institutional and financial measures, said Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorcevic.

The EC adopted on Tuesday a financial package that determines the budgetary arrangements that will be applied to Montenegro after its accession to the EU.

Gorcevic said that this financial package represents one of the most important steps in the final phase of Montenegro’s EU accession.

“It is particularly significant that Montenegro is the only candidate country for which the Commission has earmarked a specific allocation within the EU’s next multiannual budget”, Gorcevic wrote in a post on the X social network.

This, as she said, means that the EU is already planning financial instruments for the future membership of Montenegro and is preparing a smooth transition from pre-accession assistance to funds available to member states.

“This package is a strong confirmation that the EU is seriously counting on Montenegro’s accession in the near future and that the reform progress we are making is being matched with concrete institutional and financial steps. The task ahead is clear: to close the remaining negotiating chapters by the end of the year and confirm that Montenegro is ready for membership in 2028”, Gorcevic concluded.
