Becic: Montenegro proves there are no untouchables

Podgorica, (MINA) - Montenegro is clearly showing that there are no untouchables and that the rule of law is not a declarative but essential orientation of the current Government, Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Defense, Fight against Crime and Internal Affairs, Aleksa Becic has stated.

He met at the Pentagon, headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense, with acting Vice Chief of the National Guard Bureau Timothy Rieger, Vice Chief for Strategy, Policy, Plans and International Relations Timothy Brauer and Commander of the Maine National Guard, Diane Dunn.

According to the press release from Becic’s office, the Euro-Atlantic partnership, defense system modernization, strengthening bilateral partnership and regional stability, were the focus of the talks.

“The European and Euro-Atlantic paths are the foundation of the security, stability and future of Montenegro”, said Becic.

He recalled that Montenegro is among the 23 out of 32 NATO members that last year planned to allocate two percent of the gross national product to defense, reaffirming Montenegro’s commitment to advancing that goal, in line with recommendations from the U.S. President.

Becic emphasized the importance of the partnership between Montenegro and the state of Maine, which has lasted for nearly 20 years, inviting the partners from the Pentagon to visit Montenegro and celebrate this important anniversary together.
