Barovic acquitted of illegal possession and carrying of weapons charges

Barovic acquitted of illegal possession and carrying of weapons charges

Podgorica, (MINA) – Podgorica Basic Court has acquitted businessman Veselin Barovic of the criminal offense of illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosive substances, the Court announced.

The Court stated that Barovic’s actions did not constitute the essential elements of the criminal offense with which he was charged.

“Essentially, the indictment was based on the allegations that Barovic was in illegal; possession of a part of an automatic firearm, a “Hekler & Koch” magazine with accompanying ammunition, namely 17 rounds of 9x19mm ammunition”, the press release said.

The Court found that the magazine in question does not constitute a weapon component for which a special permit is required under the legal provision.

The Court established that Barovic possesses a valid firearms license for a “Jericho” pistol, model 941F, caliber 9 mm Luger, and that an expert confirmed that the seized ammunition of caliber 9x19 mm can be used with that particular firearm.

“Taking into account the above, the court found that his actions did not constitute the essential elements of the criminal offense with which he was charged”, the press release concludes.
