UPCG calls on authorities to resolve the suspension of freight transport

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Employers Federation of has called on the Government and the relevant institutions to urgently address the problem that has led to the blockade of border crossings and the suspension of freight transport.

“The right to protest is legitimate, but only within limits that safeguard the economy and do not cause harm to the overall economy and citizens. Border blockades as a form of expressing dissatisfaction have negative consequences and, in the long term, undermine the business environment and Montenegro’s reputation as a reliable economic partner,” the UPCG stated in a press release.

The Federation expressed concern about the blockades of border crossings organized since Monday by the Association of International Freight Transporters.

“Due to the border blockades and the inability for goods to leave the country, Balkan states are suffering direct damage, which is estimated at around €100 million. Such activities directly endanger the economy, the supply process, and consequently the operations of a large number of companies,” the press release stated.

They believe that the legitimate demands of all participants in the economic system should be resolved through dialogue and institutional channels, and they called on the relevant authorities to urgently begin resolving this issue.
