Stronger involvement of domestic companies needed in major infrastructure projects

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG) agreed that stronger involvement of domestic companies in the implementation of major infrastructure projects, through models of association among construction companies, is needed to increase their competitiveness and capacity to participate in large tenders.

At today’s meeting between Milatovic and President of the Chamber of Commerce Nina Drakic and her associates, it was concluded that such an approach would contribute to retaining greater added value within the domestic economy and strengthening the capacities of local businesses.

During the meeting, particular emphasis was placed on economic results from the previous year and projections for this year, with the assessment that sustainable growth depends on stronger investment in transport, energy, and digital infrastructure, as well as on improvements to the business environment.

According to a press release from the President’s Public Relations Office, they agreed that infrastructure projects are one of the key multipliers of economic growth, especially in the context of Montenegro’s progress toward full EU membership.

The meeting also addressed the structural shortage of labour, as one of the greatest constraints on further economic growth, particularly in the tourism sector and related activities.

In this context, the importance of adopting the Law on Permanent Seasonal Employment was highlighted, as an instrument that could contribute to greater predictability in employment, a reduction of the informal economy, and increased labour productivity.
