Sahmanovic: Strengthening legal framework for renewable energy investment

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Sahmanovic said that Montenegro is working to improve its legal and regulatory framework in order to create the conditions for relaunching renewable energy auctions.

“Our goal is to offer investors in Montenegro a clear and transparent system that will enable the implementation of high-quality projects and further accelerate the green energy transition,” Sahmanovic said at a meeting with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Sahmanovic met with the EBRD’s newly appointed Managing Director for Central and South-Eastern Europe Grzegorz Zieliński, Infrastructure Director Elena Gordeeva, the newly appointed Head of the EBRD Office in Montenegro Ekaterina Solovova, who will assume her post in September, and the current Head of the EBRD Office in Montenegro Remon Zakaria.

“The meeting focused on the Ministry's activities aimed at improving the regulatory framework for relaunching auctions to award market premiums for renewable energy projects,” the Ministry said in a press release.

Gordeeva said the EBRD's consulting team would provide the Ministry with full technical support throughout the process, pointing to the bank's experience and the successful implementation of renewable energy auctions in Albania as an example of regional best practice.

They agreed that auctions are one of the most important mechanisms for attracting investment in renewable energy and can provide a significant boost to the development of new projects, strengthen energy independence, and accelerate Montenegro’s green transition.
