Prison Officers Trade Union: Security situation in UIKS deliberately undermined
Podgorica, (MINA) – The state or certain individuals are deliberately undermining security situation in the Directorate for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions (UIKS), according to the Trade Union of Prison Officers, which is demanding a safe working environment, higher salaries and better conditions for retirement.
The Trade Union warns that the situation in UIKS is becoming increasingly serious, stating that, in addition to the announced strike of detainees, the dissatisfaction among the employees, especially prison police officers, is also culminating.
According to them, stripping prison officers of authority and weapons, which they need to protect themselves in private life, sets a dangerous precedent and discourages the current officers, as well as the recruitment of qualified personnel.
“Those responsible at the highest level, in terms of security, have left UIKS at the mercy of the most hardened criminals in the entire region”, said the Trade Union.
They called on the Government to take urgent measures, stressing that the responsibility for any possible security incident will lie with the state authorities, not UIKS officials.
