Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – At an extraordinary session scheduled for tomorrow, the Parliament is expected to discuss amendments to the Law on Internal Trade proposed by the Europe Now Movement, which would guarantee Sundays as non-working days.
The Constitutional Court repealed Article 35a of the Law on Internal Trade as unconstitutional, thereby abolishing work-free Sundays in the retail sector. The Court’s decision was published in the Official Gazette of Montenegro.
Following the Constitutional Court’s decision, the parliamentary group of the Europe Now Movement submitted a request for an extraordinary parliamentary session to amend that article.
Meanwhile, the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, submitted to Parliament a proposal to amend Article 64 of the Constitution, in order to constitutionally guarantee the general rule that employees in Montenegro do not work on Sundays and on national and other public holidays.
The Social Council unanimously adopted amendments to the Law on Internal Trade proposing that retail outlets in Montenegro be allowed to operate on Sundays again, but only during peak summer and winter tourist seasons, in a single shift and in one retail outlet per municipality.
The Government is yet to issue its opinion on this proposal.
