Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Vice-President of the United Reform Action (URA) Ana Novakovic Djurovic believes that the Government’s agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the energy sector is contrary to national interests.
She recalled earlier times when almost every privatization contract raised suspicions of corruption.
Novakovic Djurovic stated that the Government’s proposal to sign an interstate energy agreement with the UAE, under which Montenegro would, without any rules or transparency and contrary to the law, hand over national resources to foreign investors, is yet another shameful move.
“What else can be said when the state hands over its resources, without tenders, concessions, or public procurement, to someone who will profit from them instead of Montenegro and its citizens,” Novakovic Djurovic said.
She said that URA had also warned about the first agreement with the UAE in the tourism sector, adding that the discussion organized by the Constitutional Court showed that they were right.
Novakovic Djurovic said that URA is not against economic development and attracting foreign investment, adding however that yielding to investors’ interests by handing over national resources is a very bad practice that is not characteristic of countries governed by the rule of law.
