Novakovic Djurovic: Electoral reform still in progress, open lists the end goal

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Civic Movement URA will immediately after the Committee for Comprehensive Electoral Reform resumes its work, insist on the introduction of open electoral lists and propose solutions in that direction, vice-president of that party, Ana Novakovic Djurovic announced.

She said that for URA the electoral legislation reform did not end in July with the adoption of certain laws.

According to Novakovic Djurovic, setting a single date for all local elections, the professionalization of the State Election Commission and the introduction of a 40 percent quota for less represented gender, is only part of the electoral reform for URA.

“Therefore, immediately after the work of the Committee for Comprehensive Electoral Reform resumes, URA will insist on the introduction of open electoral lists and propose solutions in that regard”, said Novakovic Djurovic.

She expressed belief that the introduction of open lists and preferential voting is in the best interest of citizens, as well as that the voter registry reform must be completed, in order to restore public trust in the electoral process and fully eliminate all abuses committed in previous years and decades.
