Podgorica, (MINA) – The debate in the Montenegrin Parliament on the amendments to the Constitution proposed by the Government will be held on Thursday and Friday, Speaker of the Parliament Andrija Mandic announced, adding that the first round of vote on the amendments will show which political parties are truly support Montenegro’s membership in the European Union (EU).
In a post on the X social network, Mandic said that Montenegro is in the final phase of closing the negotiating chapters and that a goal strongly supported by more than 80 percent of citizens must not be jeopardized by day-to-day political calculations.
“Precisely because I do not want negotiations on support for the constitutional amendments, proposed by the Government of Montenegro, to go on indefinitely and that way we end up in a situation where we do not meet the deadlines set by the European Commission, I am announcing that the plenary debate on the necessary constitutional amendments will take place on Thursday and Friday”, Mandic said.
He added that on Wednesday, at the Parliament Speaker Collegium, they will try to agree on the date of the first of three rounds of vote on the Proposal to amend the Constitution.
“That first vote will show which the political parties truly support Montenegro becoming a country of happy, free and prosperous people and the next member of the EU”, Mandic said.
