Final verdict against Slavko Stojanovic

Final verdict against Slavko Stojanovic

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Court of Appeal has dismissed as unfounded the appeals of the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) and the defense attorney of former Police Administration director Slavko Stojanovic, and upheld the verdict of the Special Division of the High Court in Podgorica, which sentenced him to three and eight months in prison.

The Appellate Court stated that Stojanovic was found guilty of the criminal offenses of abuse of office and illegal possession of weapons and explosive materials and was sentenced to a single prison sentence of three years and eight months.

In this way, as stated, the ruling of the High Court in Podgorica has become legally binding.

The Court of Appeal assessed that neither in the procedure of passing the first-instance judgment nor in the judgment itself, significant violations of the criminal procedure had been committed, and that the decisive facts on which the legality of the judgment is based had been correctly established.

The Court of Appeal reviewed the first-instance judgement in the part of the decision on the sentence, which was challenged by the appeals of both the SDT and the the defendant’s attorney.

“And assessed that the imposed sentence is proportionate to the degree of the offense, the seriousness of the offense, the specific consequences of the committed criminal offences and the personality of the accused, as the perpetrator of the criminal offences, and that the purpose of punishment will be achieved within the general purpose of imposing criminal sanctions”, the press release concludes.
