Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Tourist industry recorded very good results this year, said Minister of Tourism Simonida Kordic, while opposition MPs argue that tourism revenues have stagnated and remain clearly seasonal.
Speaking at a parliamentary oversight hearing on the topic “Impact of the Tourist Season’s Results on the Budget of Montenegro and on Planned Economic Growth in Line with Montenegro’s Fiscal Strategy for the Period up to 2027,” Kordic said that 2025 was a very successful year for Montenegrin tourism.
“It was not without numerous challenges, such as geopolitical issues and conflicts in certain source markets, but despite all that, we managed to achieve very good results this year,” Kordic said at the Committee meeting.
Minister of Finance Novica Vukovic was also invited to the hearing but did not attend.
Kordić stated that, according to data from the World Travel & Tourism Council, tourism in Montenegro accounts for between 25 and 30 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) and total employment, and for more than 50 percent of total exports.
“According to the Central Bank (CBCG), revenues amounted to €1.32 billion in the first three quarters, which is 1.26 percent more compared to the corresponding period and 30.66 percent more than in 2019,” Kordic specified.
She added that the UN World Tourism Organization’s Tourism Barometer for the first quarter ranked Montenegro sixth globally in terms of growth in tourism revenues.
