Future of tourism lies in sustainable and energy-efficient solutions

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) –Minister of Tourism Simonida Kordic said that the future of tourism belongs to destinations and hotels that recognize the importance of energy sources and the application of new, modern and sustainable systems.

“The obvious benefit is the reduction of hotel operating costs, which enables them to be more competitive and to provide more comfortable and modern conditions for their guests,” Kordic said at the event titled “Together for Sustainable Tourism – A Partnership Between the State, the European Union and Business in the Green Transition”.

The event presented the results of an energy efficiency project in the hotel industry, implemented with financial support from the European Union (EU), and announced a new support programme aimed at improving sustainability and energy efficiency in the hotel sector.

Kordic said the effects of implementing these systems are multiple and far-reaching.

“As a country on the threshold of EU accession, Montenegro is closely and seriously following new trends in energy business. In this way, the overall volume of greenhouse gas emissions is reduced,” she said.

EU Ambassador to Montenegro Johann Sattler said the EU designed the programme and provided €30 million for Montenegro, with a focus on vulnerable groups.

“As many as 50,000 people received support, and what is particularly important is that people also received assistance for solar panels, insulation and similar measures,” Sattler said.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of EPCG Milutin Djukanovic said the green transition is highly compatible with tourism.

“Through the green energy transition, we want a cleaner environment. And what is one of the most important resources for tourism? A clean environment. So this is highly compatible, and I believe this is exactly what is being achieved in Montenegro,” he said.
