Podgorica, (MINA) – Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North Damjan Culafic has urged citizens to be careful and act responsibly during the upcoming high temperatures season, in order to prevent wildfires, protect their own and lives of others, and avoid damage to nature and the environment.

He said that, unfortunately, Montenegro has witnessed numerous examples of devastating consequences of fires, recalling that last year one person lost their life in wildfires.

Culafic said that many areas affected by wildfires have not yet fully recovered, which is why the Ministry has launched activities aimed at their recovery.

He strssed that forests, meadows and coastal areas are already facing problems of improper waste disposal, and that fires further destroy ecosystems, threaten flora and fauna and leave long-term consequences for nature and the quality of life of all citizens.

“This is why we once again call on all citizens to contribute to preserving Montenegro’s natural resources through responsible behavior, because prevention is the best way to protect lives, property and the environment”, Culafic concluded.
