Coalmine secures 150 new jobs

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Executive Director of the Pljevlja Coalmine Nemanja Lakovic, the company has secured 150 new jobs thanks to the results achieved so far under its business transformation programme.

Presenting the results of the business transformation carried out through the Just Transition Plan and the Pljevlja Recovery Plan, as well as planned development initiatives aimed at diversifying the economy of both the company and the municipality, Lakovic said these concrete achievements and independently launched initiatives demonstrate that the Coalmine is a leader in the just transition process.

„In cooperation with UNDP, the company is launching a Green Jobs Training Centre as one of the key initiatives for developing human resources during this process. We are also placing special emphasis on plans to revive the wood-processing industry, which will create around 150 sustainable jobs and further stimulate Pljevlja's economic development,” Lakovic explained.

The results were presented during a meeting at the Pljevlja Coalmine with representatives of the World Bank, the international consultancy Berlin Economics, and the NGO Eco-Team.

The meeting focused on plans to develop new business activities, improve employees' skills and provide retraining opportunities, implement planned organisational changes, and address expectations regarding the financial support needed to successfully carry out the transition process.

Lakovic also highlighted the importance of establishing a Start-up Centre, which will serve as a key mechanism for supporting local entrepreneurship. He added that these are tangible development projects capable of making a significant contribution to Pljevlja's economic transformation, creating new jobs, and providing a sustainable future for the local community during the energy transition.
