Becic: Montenegro will never again serve as drug smuggling refuge

Podgorica, (MINA) – The operation, during which a large marijuana plantation was discovered, sends a message to the region and Montenegro’s allies that the country will never again serve as a refuge or a transit station for drug smuggling, but as a reliable partner in the fight against international crime, said Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Becic.

He expressed gratitude to Acting Chief of Police Administration, Lazar Scepanovic, police officers and prosecutors, as well as the entire intelligence and security sector for months of work and perseverance, which resulted in the discovery of the largest marijuana plantation.

“I am aware that such operations require dedication, commitment and courage and that our people risk their lives to protect the lives and health of citizens”, said Becic.

According to the Government’s press release, he emphasized that this is why the Government is obliged to provide them with all necessary support, protection and resources to continue the fight even more strongly.

“This is just the beginning. There will be more operations, there will be more attacks on criminal networks, we will prove that the state belongs to its citizens, not to the mafia”, said Becic.
