Podgorica, (MINA) - Former Supreme Court president Vesna Medenica was arrested in Kolasin on Saturday evening, after the Court of Appeal upheld the request of the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT), submitted on January 31, to order her detention.
On January 28, the Podgorica High Court panel of judges, chaired by judge Vesna Kovacevic, issued a first-instance verdict sentencing Medenica to ten years in prison.
Medenica was then imposed surveillance measures, including a ban on leaving Kolasin and the confiscation of her travel documents.
In its appeal, the SDT requested that the High Court’s decision be amended and that Medenica be placed into custody.
Medenica was sentenced to ten years in prison and fined EUR 50,000 for the criminal offense of unlawful influence on judges, while the Court found insufficient evidence to conclude that she was a member of the criminal organization formed by her son Milos Medenica.
Milos Medenica was sentenced to ten years and two months in prison, and after the verdict delivery he fled and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
