Podgorica, (MINA) – The highest sea levels since measurements began have been registered at the tidal stations of the Institute for Hydrometeorology and Seismology (ZHMS) in Bar and Kotor, ZHMS announced.
It is stated that the level of +81 cm above mean sea level was measured in Bar, while +79 cm above MSL was recorded in Kotor.
“These values exceed the previous historical maximums by as much as 8 cm in Bar and 9 cm in Kotor, which represents an extremely rare and statistically significant event”, the press release says.
The Institute emphasized that the continuous series of sea level measurements at those locations have been conducted for almost 20 years.
According to ZHMS, breaking the previous absolute maximum by almost 10 cm represents an exceptional deviation compared to the previous variability of the system.
“Although they do not indicate a permanent rise in mean sea level, their frequency and intensity require careful monitoring and detailed analysis, especially in the context of climate change and long-term trends”, the press release said.
