Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Ministry of Finance (MF) said that, according to data for the first quarter of this year, Montenegro’s gross public debt amounted to €5.13 billion, or 59.9 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
“Compared with the end of last year, gross public debt decreased by nearly €55 million,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry added that government debt amounted to €5.11 billion, or 59.6 percent of GDP.
“During the first quarter, the Government regularly serviced all obligations related to public debt while maintaining the stability of public finances. The debt structure continues to be dominated by obligations denominated in euros and instruments with fixed interest rates, which helps reduce currency and interest-rate risks,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry noted that it will continue its policy of responsible public debt management, aimed at preserving fiscal sustainability, ensuring stable financing of budgetary needs, and creating fiscal space for the implementation of the country's development and infrastructure priorities.
