Podgorica, (MINA) – A vote on constitutional amendments cannot be viewed separately from the broader political dialogue that is underway, said Democratic Party of Socialists MP Andrija Nikolic, recalling that the opposition is still waiting for the parliamentary majority’s response to the platform for overcoming the institutional crisis that they proposed.

Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandic announced earlier that the MPs would vote on constitutional amendments on Monday, while the debate is scheduled to start at Parliament session on Thursday.

According to Nikolic, if the idea of ​​organizing a parliamentary session on the constitutional amendments is a step towards a more serious consideration of the opposition’s demands, they are ready and waiting to see the future developments in the political dialogue.

Nikolic further added that Mandic announced at the Collegium, on behalf of the entire parliamentary majority, that they want the political dialogue to continue publicly during the parliamentary debate on constitutional amendments.

According to Nikolic, this is not always the best approach to the negotiation process that should result in an agreement.

“However, our positions are well known and we expect the parliamentary majority to respond positively to our outstretched hand”, said Nikolic.

He said that he did not want to prejudge the outcome of the talks between the government and the opposition, but that he hoped that the government was aware that Montenegro had a historic opportunity.

“As far as we are concerned, we remain committed to dialogue and finding solutions that are in the interest of the state, all its citizens and our European path”, Nikolic concluded.
