Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Minister of Tourism Simonida Kordic, tourism results to date have been exceptionally strong, promising a highly successful tourist season, possibly one of the best on record.
Speaking before a joint meeting of the Parliamentary Committees on Tourism, Agriculture, Ecology and Spatial Planning, and on Economy, Finance and Budget, Kordic said that this year’s tourist season has been marked by extremely challenging circumstances due to the current geopolitical situation, which has had a direct impact on tourism in Montenegro.
“We responded to these challenges immediately. We did not sit back and wait to see what would happen. Instead, together with our partners, we launched a series of activities and bilateral meetings, while also intensifying our promotional campaign by focusing primarily on markets that are relatively close to us, especially European markets,” Kordic said at the meeting, which focused on the economic effects of the early season and preparations for the peak tourist season.
Kordic said these efforts had produced tangible results, with both tourist arrivals and overnight stays increasing during the first five months of the year.
“Montenegro has maintained its position and strengthened it through, among other things, much greater international visibility and recognition, as well as the strong confidence tourists have shown in Montenegro as a stable and safe destination,” Kordic said.
She added that the Ministry’s international activities had helped enter new source markets, which is particularly important for tourism, a sector that is highly sensitive to external developments.
