Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The representative trade unions of Airports of Montenegro have welcomed the Government’s decision to adopt a proposal to cancel the public call for applications for prequalification in the concession process for Airports of Montenegro.
“This is the right, responsible, and long-awaited decision, and the Government deserves recognition for having the courage to bring to a close a process that lost all purpose long ago,” the unions representing employees at Podgorica and Tivat airports said in a press release.
The unions said it should be stated clearly and honestly that this is a victory for the workers of Airports of Montenegro.
“This is the result of years of persistent, and often solitary, efforts by the representative trade unions, which warned from the very beginning about the issues that are now being confirmed as valid. Had it not been for that struggle, this process would have been concluded long ago to the detriment of the state and its workers,” the statement said.
According to the unions, the concession procedure launched in 2019 had been burdened with controversy from the outset. It was based on assumptions and asset valuations that have since become outdated. Seven years later, Airports of Montenegro is delivering results that no one had projected at the time.
